Sort of usefulSep 18, 2011
By Scutterbob Overall I was a bit disappointed by the bag. The second day I used it, one of the zipper pulls came off (stitching failed). Bag does not have chest or waist level buckles, which for sprints across airports I find comforting. It will fit a 17" Notebook, but is a little tight. Fits fine under airline seats. Solar panel is unregulated, open circuit ~18 volts, short circuit ~0.2 amps, so at nominal 12 volt ~2.5 watts. Output provided is conventional cig. lighter socket, no usb. No battery backup built-in like some bags. Was useful enough to charge at least one item at a time while walking around outdoors in bright summer sun. Cell phone, GPS, e-reader, each seemed to charge but slowly. Ipod did not seem to charge, but that could have been my dumb usb/cig adapter. Obviously solar panel works best if directly normal to sun, which means not on back. Bag itself is very light weight, reasonably padded, little bit small, a portfolio was a very tight fit.

PERFECT!Sep 14, 2011
By pcines The Samsonite Solar Bag works great. I took it to Italy and I did a lot of walking in the heat. I was able to power my GPS unit with it. My only recommendation would be to buy a battery pack for it. The best one that I've found is the one by New Trent. You can even buy it on Amazon too.

Light, and almost idealSep 19, 2011
By Dmitry Boytsov It's lightweight. It's really light. Only 1kg, twice less then competitor. With flex solar panel (it's not very energy-effective panel, but flexible and lightweight). Material of backpack not look like very durable or sutable for hard travel. It's more urban. Probably this also helped save weight. It have 12V power adaptor (as in car) from solar panel. NO BATTERY to carge from it your devices when no sun. You need purchase special battery separately. It's make this backpack not ideal. But it still nice after first impression. Time will show how it's good in real life.
