5Plenty of life leftJan 07, 2011

Great pack. It's used (as clearly indicated) but still has plenty of life left in it. Heavy-duty, durable, should last me for years to come. When it comes to military gear, the government knows how do that right.

3not for heavy load carriesFeb 25, 2012
By K. E. Badger "srt medic"
I purchased two of these packs off of ebay in new condition. I loaded one of these packs up for use on one of the Wilderness Search and Rescue teams that I am on up here in Central Maine. The pack weight was approx 20 pounds. Tried it on before actually using it under field operating conditions and it felt fine. The quality of the materials and the stitching are very worth it. Do not get the cheaper knock off versions that are floating around out there. Make sure the interior tag says SDS Large Assault Pack Style 4095 made by Specialty Defense Systems.

Over Memorial Day weekend back in 2010, we got an alert for a missing hiker up in our Baxter State Park. He was reported overdue by park staff. We arrived on Sunday 30 May 2010 and started the search of Mt Katahdin. Several teams were deployed from Roaring Brook campground and headed off on their respective trails for their assigned search grids.

This pack went with me and needless to say, with round 20 pounds of gear, climbing up to 3,500 level and over boulders, and yes, ice and snow (in the North Basin and South Basin areas of the mountain all the way up the North East side to about the 4,900 foot level near Pamola and Chimney Peak) was a major mistake.

The pack its self is great, but the should straps in my opinion is the weak spot. There is very little padding and with that much weight carrying it for a very long and arduous 8 hours killed my shoulders, the muscles and neck region. The straps are very well designed and thought out for the most part except for the padding or lack thereof. You have heard of barking dogs as it pertains to your feet, well, this pack will give you that and more on your shoulder region.

Highly suggest that the shoulder straps be removed by the end user and replaced with the old Alice Pack shoulder straps or similar style of their choosing, but make sure they are fitting comfortably and well padded. I have literally just finished this project about an hour ago. The next thing I am doing to the Alice Pack straps is to modify them with a chest strap and quick release buckles that I just removed on the no padding SDS Large Assault Pack Style 4095 shoulder straps. It will be worth it in the long run as know I am able to use the pack once again and not keep it in storage.

5Great quality as describedOct 20, 2011

First of all, the pack is great. I'm a huge military surplus nut and when I saw it I had to have it. Now, I was going to spend $100 up on a pack and get a great quality item but then I thought, the Army issues high quality gear so Army Surplus was my option. I got this pack and it is a water resistant 1000D Nylon material. It has many useful straps and if you have the MOLLE II Rucksack you can attach it to the main ruck with a set of buckles. The MOLLE retail isn't amazing but the cinch straps on top, bottom and sides make up for it. I would recommend a MOLLE II Canteen pouch on the side for various uses. The compartment on the inside for the hydration bladder is spacious, padded and has a stiff back so your pack holds it's composure. It also has a Velcro tab on each side to run your Hydration Hose through whichever side you prefer. There is also a sleeve on the back and a clear tag for ID purposes. The pack isn't for good for organization so I also recommend buying other pouches to organize your gear. The main compartment is perfect for stuff clothing and other items. The middle compartment is good for anything from large sized binders and notebooks to anything you want to shove in there. It also has a mini pocket on the inside of the middle compartment. Now, the front compartment is great for need to be items that need to be grabbed at a haste. The bag was in great condition to top it all off, a couple scuffed buckles from use but that shows me it's worth using. There wasn't even a Grunt's name on the item nor were there any stains or upsetting odors. Great pack, great seller, great buy. Hopefully this review answers all of the questions that I wanted to be answered before I purchased it. Thanks for reading the review.
~Best Regards

5US Military Surplus SDS Large MOLLE Assault PackMay 29, 2011

This is the real deal! Military issue MOLLE assault pack in great condition as advertised! This was an amazing deal (< 40$)and the shipping was lightening fast.Highly recommended item! This thing will withstand many years of abuse. Only drawback is the grunts name across the top of the pack in permanent marker.

5Great packDec 15, 2011

This pack is absolutely amazing. I bought it for school, and I can't have asked for anything better. It's made of 1000D Nylon, so it's incredibly durable, and will stand up to anything! It's also very water-resistant. I had a bottle of water that spilled all over it, and nothing inside was wet. It comes with a removable frame inside with a pad so what you're carrying won't hurt your back too much.

It has a lot of space in the main and front compartments, and two smaller pockets for things that you need access to quickly.

I've used it for hiking as well. I attached the MOLLE II rucksack to the main ruck so I could keep an couple other things in it, and that greatly increased the capacity to the point where it could probably be used as a week-long pack (if you pack lightly). It has a large space for a hydration bladder, and sealable slots to fit the tube through. I was amazed how well the pack held up with my equipment and gear.

Buy this pack and you will not be disappointed! True made in the USA material!
